Not only do they have taste but the truth of the matter is that with such components as electrolytes and carbohydrates, being refueled is not exactly the most difficult endeavor. According to a report posted on Medical News Today, there seems to be quite a few unhealthy habits that are either caused by, or lead to, sports drink intake. Research data was attained by a number of students - 2,793, to be exact - and they were seen across a total of 20 Minneapolis schools. Various aspects were looked at amongst these students, ranging from sports drink consumption to the hours of video games played. After the study concluded, it was found that boys who took part in sports drink consumption were also those who spent 4 hours each week playing games and an additional hour watching TV. Even more noteworthy, though, is that these adolescents were not only linked to higher sugar amounts but greater rates of smoking. It's understandable that athletes rely on sports drinks because of their refreshing qualities. With that said, there are better alternatives to turn to.

Water is easily the most common example of hydration, according to authorities along the lines of GPM Pediatrics. Not only is water a more prevalent product to consider, as those in Staten Island pediatrics can attest to, but they are viewed as safer as well. Keep in mind that while sports drinks can indeed hydrate the body, it's not like they are able to offer much more. They do not have much in the way of vitamins, which means that your body can benefit more from other options.

The biggest takeaway from this story is that when it comes to hydration, whether for sports purposes or not, water is the best choice. It probably goes without saying, especially when more than half of the human body is made up of water already. Sports drinks, as you can see, are not the best options, regardless of how popular they might be. Make it a point to evade those brand names; your level of health will be that much greater.
