Protecting Yourself Against Mouth Injuries In Sports

By Rey Vetangelo

There are a lot of people that suffer from craniofacial pain and do not realize that there is a cure. When you are suffering from this type of pain you want to make sure that you identify where the pain is coming from. First, you should make sure that you understand how you are going to be wise about talking with a doctor. There are many craniofacial pain specialists that can help you understand what pain you are feeling and how you can prevent the pain.

It wasn't until the mid-1940s that the world fully realized the impact fluoride was having in people's mouths. It was just a natural element found in the earth's crust, water, and air, but the more people that had it, the less cavities they had. That is when they decided to implement it into their water supplies.

They discovered that it was one of the few minerals that help in the remineralization process - building minerals up in the enamel layer in teeth after they are lost in the demineralization process. Calcium and phosphate are also essential to the building up of more enamel. Even when we brush and floss our teeth daily there is plaque that builds up and attacks the enamel, starting the demineralization process. It is a continuous cycle, and if you do not remineralize your teeth it can lead to tooth decay.

Second, you want to make sure that you are taking time to go through a list of your own. Trying to identify what you can on your own may mean that you do not have to go and visit the pain specialist when you are trying to figure out what is wrong. While you are looking into the many different causes of pain you want to make sure that you start by trying to figure out if you have TMJ. There are a lot of people that have a TMJ dysfunction and do not even realize it.

While children are growing teeth, whether it is baby teeth or their mature permanent teeth, this is the time that they must be exposed to fluoride. This is typically around six months to 16 years of age. After this age it is important to continue to use fluoride in order to prevent tooth decay.

Companies that are responsible for manufacturing sports equipment are coming out with new innovations all the time to improve the effectiveness of their merchandise. This equipment should be thrown right onto the field the moment it is released to the public. Investing in this kind of equipment will be worth it when the number of injuries that are prevented is taken into consideration.

There can be other infections besides tooth infections that can cause problems with craniofacial pain. You should be sure that you are aware that you could have a bone infection, a sinus infection or even a fungus infection. Although some of the conditions may be rare, you want to be sure that you are aware of what could be happening. Identifying your specific symptoms can help you narrow down your problems much easier than being vague about what you are feeling. There are also some people that will start to have craniofacial pain because of bone spurs. You should make sure that you are aware of this and that you care for your face and your neck properly if you suspect that you may have a bone spur.

Also known as gingivitis, gum disease can spread to the teeth, leading to tooth decay, necessitating the fluoride.

If you or your family have been known to have more cavities every year than most, it is recommended that you use more fluoride. Any sort of treatment in the mouth puts the teeth at slightly more risk for decay where the tooth meets the appliance. Be careful of these areas and apply copious amounts of fluoride for best results.
