By Ellen L. Weller

People with great smiles easily attract. Toothpaste companies choose the best of those whose smiles outshine the rest. A person's smile radiates because it means good teeth and mouth condition. Dental care plays a big role in a person's confidence in putting up an attractive smile. Healthy teeth and its perfect condition is often associated with beautiful smiles.

Our teeth and gums require both personal care at home and dental experts at the clinic. Proper dental care is largely dependent on an individual's genetic, personal hygiene, diet, occupation, and living conditions.

Dental situations vary from one person to another; there are some people who experience dental problems despite regular visits to the dentist, while others rarely experience problems even if they have never visited a dental specialist.

Whatever a person's economic status, a regular visit to the dentist at least twice a year, is still highly recommended for routine examination and teeth cleaning. This is to be able to identify some minor conditions before these become serious. For example, if a cavity has been identified earlier, it would have been treated before it becomes serious. If left untreated, the defective cavity causes an infection on the tooth pulp which necessitates a root canal to prevent potential damage.

The following are the most common dental conditions which require regular attention: dental cavities, tooth decay, plaque, tartar, gingivitis, and teeth sensitivity. All of these require proper and regular dental care. Among these, tooth decay stands out, however, as the one most common for all individuals regardless of age and social status.

Tooth decay is a disease that occurs when cavities are left untreated; it often leads to excessive and sometimes almost unbearable mouth pain and puts you at risk of infection, losing your tooth, and possibly, death. It also destroys the tooth structure and affects the enamel and the dentin layer of the tooth. Let us then look at some valuable tips on how to ensure a healthy set of teeth.
