Finding Your New Dentist In Santa Cruz

By Rey Vetangelo

For most children in Santa Cruz the dentist's office is seen as a dark, dark place where happiness goes to die. Full of whining drills, creaking floor boards, masked adults, and something that resembles Frankenstein's operation chair, the family dentist office can be more of a real life nightmare for children than it is a place that promotes health.

That being said, dentists are able to bring a certain set of skills to the table which makes for better care and treatment. The special training and experience which are gained by the professionals gives them the ability to do what an individual could not do on their own. Additionally, it is important to note that the tools used by these professionals are also very useful when it comes to taking care of the persons teeth. These tools are going to be more powerful and specialized than what is available to the average person.

As you are learning how you are going to be wise about this process, you want to make sure that you also talk with your insurance company. You may be able to talk with your insurance company and get a list of every dentist in the area that will be covered by your insurance.

Even from this early age a visit to the dentist's office can frighten or intimidate a small child and this fear seems to get worse in those that have it the older into childhood they grow. To help a child overcome their fears of the dentists, or at least to help mitigate the stress they feel and the nervousness they experience, there are a few things that parents can do.

When you know that you are only going to be able to go in before work, after work or on the weekends you will need to find a dentist that has hours that are accommodating to this. Take the time that you need to be sure that you find a dentist who will be opened when you need him. You will also want to make sure that you take the time to look into their emergency services. You want to find a dentist that has an emergency line that you can always contact him or her on to ensure that you are going to be able to get the help that you need with your emergency.

A good part of the process is tracking the condition of individuals and then implementing that information in useful ways. When it all comes down to it, being able to track information is going to prove the dentist with the best care options and individualized treatment plans. Every person is going to be different with what they want and need. Part of the process is matching up the best options with the individual in order to help them to get to a better state of oral health.

When you are getting ready for your first visit you want to make sure that you are bringing all of the dental records that you can. This means, you are going to want to have all of the charts and all of the x-rays that you can get your hands on so that the doctor understands your entire mouth. Take the time that you need to understand how you are going to start collecting these when you leave a dentist. Ask for your charts and all of your x-rays so that your next dentist will have the records that he or she needs to be able to make the proper diagnoses for your entire mouth.

As a side note, those that visit on an ongoing basis will also be able to have much whiter and brighter smiles than those who do not. Regular attention makes a huge difference, and it is one that become more pronounced over the course of time.

Using only their toothbrush as a tool, pretend with the child that they are at the dentist's office and count their teeth by touching each tooth with the toothbrush as a dentist would. Using a mirror to show the child during the play time may also help to soothe their young nerves.

Finally, be sure that you are visiting your dentist every six months. There are many people that do not realize how important it is to be going to the dentist every six months to ensure that they can keep their mouth clean and well taken care of. Make sure that you are wise about finding your new dentist in Santa Cruz. This way, you will be happy to visit your dentist on a consistent basis.
